Indicators

The cement industry goes hand in hand with sustainability. Reconciling the development of its activity with the protection of the environment and commitment to society has always been a priority for the sector. This commitment is made since the constant search to intensify the use of raw materials and alternative fuels, reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

To meet these assumptions, producing companies have long been implementing and intensifying efforts to increase the efficiency of their processes, preserve non-renewable natural resources and minimize their impacts on the environment.

Since the early 2000s, the global cement industry has supported one of the largest sustainability programs ever undertaken by a single industrial sector. This initiative, known as the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), is an effort of 23 of the largest cement producers in the world for sustainability.

With operations in more than 100 countries and a share of about 1/3 of the world's cement production (2/3 without China) distributed in more than 900 industrial facilities, the initiative concentrates the largest database of sustainable indicators and emissions of CO2 in the world.

From this database, the performance of the Brazilian cement industry compared to the main countries or cement producing blocks for a series of more than 50 performance indicators (KPI) can be monitored year after year.
